Thursday Great Acting Blogging: Gene Evans
Gene Evans........a big block of American beef. He started and stayed in Westerns and crime thrillers, later appearing on almost every conceivable TV oater for decades. Mostly he stayed just another big hunk of all-American AAA cow-flesh. Except when Sam Fuller got his cigar-stained hands on him, and made some of the best American movies ever: The Steel Helmet, Fixed Bayonets!, and Park Row. Then Evans becomes Fuller's ideal American (also depicted by Lee Marvin's Sarg in Fuller's Big Red One): brawny, profane, brave, clever, salt of the earth and finally humane.
